Customer Reviews

Customer Review: You can smell and taste the difference in this fine extra virgin olive oil. I just received this a couple of days ago, and the same night I made a large batch of crostini (with baked fresh baguette slices) for several different bruschetta spreads I had laid out. I generously brushed the slices with olive oil before baking, and they turned out perfectly crispy and delicious. I shared them with my 4 housemates, and they all loved them. However, I actually bought this brand of olive oil to use daily for its health benefits. I drank my first teaspoon today, but will probably graduate to about 1-2 tablespoons. I never thought I’d “drink” olive oil, but it wasn’t bad at all, and after reading a lot on the subject, I thought I needed to give it a try. This is a premium olive oil from Morocco that’s cold-pressed and rich in polyphenols. Polyphenols offer significant health benefits by reducing chronic inflammation, improving blood pressure and cholesterol, enhancing insulin sensitivity, and protecting against cardiovascular disease, neurodegenerative diseases, and certain cancers. However, not all olive oils are equal. In fact, I read that there are a lot of fraudulent olive oils out there that are mislabeled as extra-virgin even when they’re not. A 2010 study conducted by the University of California–Davis Olive Center tested supermarket samples of Extra Virgin Olive Oil and concluded that more than 69% of olive oil labeled “extra virgin” did not meet the legal standard. Who wants fake (heat-treated or refined) olive oil when you can have the real deal? Now, other polyphenol-rich olive oils, including the one promoted by Dr. Gundy, can be VERY EXPENSIVE. Gundry MD Olive Oil is also produced with Moroccan olives and is rich in polyphenols; however, it’s 3 times more expensive than this brand. Atlas Olive Oil, I believe, is comparable in quality, and the price is polished. If you want a superior quality olive oil at an affordable price, this is the one!

Customer Review: I’ve tried many premium olive oils over the years, but the Atlas 1L Cold Press Extra Virgin Olive Oil from Morocco stands out as one of the best I’ve ever used. From the moment you open the bottle, you can tell this is a high‑quality, freshly harvested, cold‑pressed oil made with real care. The flavor is incredibly clean and vibrant. It has a smooth, fruity taste with subtle herbal notes, and just the right amount of peppery finish that you expect from a polyphenol‑rich EVOO. It elevates everything—from salads and dips to roasted vegetables and grilled meats. Even just drizzling it over bread is amazing. What really sets this oil apart is its high polyphenol content. You can taste the freshness, and it feels noticeably richer and more robust than typical grocery‑store olive oils. Knowing it’s cold‑pressed, unprocessed, and produced by a single-family farm in Morocco gives extra confidence in its purity and authenticity. This is a top‑tier olive oil—the kind trusted by chefs and loved by home cooks. The quality is consistent, the flavor is exceptional, and the health benefits are a huge bonus. For anyone who appreciates real extra virgin olive oil, this is absolutely worth buying.

Customer Reviews

Customer Review: I absolutely love this coconut oil and use it as the only oil I cook with, because I’ve struggled to find oils that I feel are truly healthy — most others just don’t make the cut for me. What I especially appreciate about this one is that it’s organic and sourced from a family-oriented brand, which makes me feel GREAT about using it in all my meals. This oil is naturally rich in MCTs (medium-chain triglycerides), a type of fat that the body can quickly use for energy rather than storing it the same way other fats are stored — meaning it supports metabolism and provides a clean source of energy compared to typical long-chain fats.I use it for sautéing, baking, frying — you name it — and I love that it’s unflavored and unscented so it doesn’t interfere with the taste of my food. It’s also non-GMO, gluten-free, hexane-free, and free of trans fats, which aligns with my commitment to eating better. A healthy staple that consistently delivers quality every time!If you’re looking for a reliable, clean, versatile cooking oil that aligns with a health-focused lifestyle, this one’s a winner in my book. 🍳🥥

Customer Review: I had been diagnosed as pre-diabetic at my check-up three months ago. I was told to cut back on sugars, white bread, rice, cookies and candy or risk a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes. I bought one of those blood sugar test kits on Amazon, and started checking my numbers. In addition, I began to read about foods and other supplements that could help. There was a good deal of info on coconut oil and water. I cook a lot for myself and I typically use peanut oil for it’s high smoke point (450 degrees F), Coconut oil has a smoke point of 350 degrees F, but unless you’re deep frying this is fine for grilling fish, making popcorn or baking. This particular oil is tasteless so it has a lot of applications that call for oil (pancakes, waffles, corn bread, mayonnaise, salad dressing) and you won’t get a weird taste. They make this in flavors too, garlic, rosemary, etc.but I prefer the tasteless.Since the smoke points are the same, this works as blend with un-clarified butter as a popcorn popping mixture, I remember hearing about 20 years ago that a large popcorn in movie theaters popped with coconut oil contained the saturated fat of six Big Macs. A chilling thought for regular movie goers, and the backlash caused many theaters to start using canola oil or sunflower oil to make the popcorn. Despite the difference in taste, it seems they went to a less healthy oil in the long run. Coconut oil while being heavily saturated than some oils has more of a healing quality than if you say used beef tallow or lard. Just another sensational media scare that in essence made us eat less healthy that what we used to do. Getting back to the taste, when blended with butter popcorn develops this rich taste that made theater popcorn so good.Besides making popcorn on the stove, my lunches at work were typically a sandwich and a cup of Progresso vegetable beef, chicken noodle, or just vegetable soup. I found I could stir in a full ounce of coconut oil and it made the soups richer without changing the taste. I started using this oil regularly for a month or so. A few weeks ago I went in for my blood work, and then last week for my check-up. Since I still ate too many starches, potatoes and such, and the occasional pizza, I was worried about the results. I was surprised to hear that my blood sugar was well back in the normal range. While I’d cut down on some bad foods, I really hadn’t done everything I could, so I give credit to the coconut oil for helping me get back to normal. If you look around on various websites including Carrington Farms they list numerous benefits for coconut oil for killing disease in the body, to topical fungus cures outside, to skin care, hair care, weight loss and many more. Despite the amount of saturated fat it appears to have little effect on cholesterol or weight gain. One of the other reviewers mentioned some thyroid benefits, I take the same prescription as him, and that part of my blood work was called out as very good by my Physician as well, it could just be the medication, but maybe the coconut oil had a small effect there as well. I recommend this product highly based on my experiences with it. I’ve bought several bottles, and use it regularly in my cooking. The Zon has a particularly good price on this brand and offers it on a subscription for even less, so give it a try and see what I mean.

Complete Buying Guide for Best Oil To Season Cast Iron

Essential Factors We Consider

When searching for the best oil to season cast iron, several factors play a crucial role in determining how well it will perform. First and foremost is the smoke point of the oil. This is the temperature at which an oil starts to burn and smoke, and for seasoning, you want an oil with a relatively high smoke point, typically above 350°F (175°C). This allows the oil to polymerize—a fancy way of saying it bakes onto the surface, forming a hard, protective layer—without simply burning off or leaving a sticky residue.

Another key consideration is the oil’s composition, specifically its content of unsaturated fats. Oils rich in polyunsaturated fats (like grapeseed or flaxseed) tend to polymerize more effectively, creating a tougher seasoning. Monounsaturated fats (like avocado or olive oil) also work well, especially those with higher smoke points. Saturated fats (like coconut oil or animal fats) can be used, but generally form a softer seasoning that might not be as durable initially. Finally, consider the flavor and odor. For a neutral seasoning, oils like refined avocado or grapeseed are excellent choices. If you don’t mind a subtle flavor, a high-quality extra virgin olive oil can also work, provided it’s used sparingly and at the right temperature.

Budget Planning

Seasoning cast iron doesn’t have to break the bank. You’ll find a wide range of oils available, from very affordable vegetable oils to more premium options like avocado oil. Basic options like vegetable oil or grapeseed oil are often quite budget-friendly and work perfectly well. However, remember that you only use a very thin layer of oil each time you season, so even a more expensive bottle will last you a long time. Investing a little more in an oil with a higher smoke point and better polymerization properties can save you time and effort in the long run by creating a more durable seasoning layer that requires less frequent re-seasoning. Ultimately, choose an oil that fits your budget but also meets the essential criteria for effective cast iron care.

Final Thoughts

Choosing the right oil for your cast iron is a personal journey, often influenced by cooking style, dietary preferences, and even what you already have in your pantry. The goal is always to achieve that beautiful, slick, and non-stick surface that makes cast iron a joy to use. Don’t be afraid to experiment with different oils, but always prioritize food-grade options with suitable smoke points for the best results. A well-seasoned cast iron skillet is a truly magical thing, and the right oil is your first step to achieving it.

FAQs For Best Cast Iron Seasoning Oils

Q: What is the ideal smoke point for cast iron seasoning oil?

A: Ideally, you want an oil with a smoke point between 400°F and 500°F (200°C – 260°C). This range allows the oil to properly polymerize and form a hard, non-stick surface without burning excessively or creating too much smoke during the seasoning process.

Q: Can I use olive oil to season my cast iron?

A: While traditional extra virgin olive oil generally has a lower smoke point (around 375°F or 190°C) and can sometimes leave a sticky residue if not applied very thinly, some high-quality, refined olive oils or those specifically noted for higher heat tolerance can be used. It’s crucial to apply extremely thin layers and cure at the appropriate temperature to prevent a gummy finish. For a deeper dive, check out Can You Season Cast Iron With Olive Oil.

Q: How often should I season my cast iron?

A: The frequency depends on how often you use and clean your cast iron. For a new pan, you’ll want to season it several times to build a good base. For regular maintenance, a light seasoning after every few uses or whenever the surface starts to look dull or food begins to stick can be beneficial. After a thorough cleaning, especially if you’ve removed old seasoning, a full re-seasoning is necessary.

Q: What’s the difference between seasoning and oiling a cast iron pan?

A: “Seasoning” refers to the process of applying a very thin layer of oil and heating it past its smoke point until it polymerizes, forming a durable, non-stick, and rust-resistant layer. “Oiling” (or “maintaining”) typically refers to applying a thin coat of oil after cooking and cleaning to protect the existing seasoning and prevent rust, without necessarily heating it to polymerization temperature.

Q: Can mineral oil be used for seasoning cast iron?

A: Food-grade mineral oil is excellent for protecting cast iron from rust and conditioning the existing seasoning. However, it doesn’t polymerize in the same way plant-based oils do, so it won’t build up a new, hard seasoning layer. It’s best used for maintenance and rust prevention, not for initial seasoning or rebuilding a non-stick surface.

Choosing the perfect oil to season your cast iron is a vital step in ensuring your cookware lasts a lifetime and performs flawlessly in the kitchen. Whether you opt for a high-smoke-point avocado oil for a robust finish, a neutral grapeseed oil for versatility, or a simple mineral oil for maintenance, the key is consistent care.
